Second year safety Sean Taylor may feel that he has a lot to prove this year after a series of off-season problems. But were they really problems, or has the entire NFL changed?

At some point leading up to now we have all heard that Taylor may have too many issues for the Washington Redskins to deal with. You may have even heard that he is a head case and that the coaches won’t be able to keep him under control. Well this is a game where you have to be a little unsettled. You’ve got to have the kind of mentality that I am going to knock your head off before you knock off mine. And my god, he (Taylor) is a hard-hitting safety. All of the great defensive players are somewhat a little deranged.

Take a look at Ray Lewis, one of the best to ever line up on the defensive side of the ball. I mean no offence Ray, but the dance moves are little disturbing. Or how about Bill Romanowski? This guy is known for spitting in the faces of opponents and when he is not doing that, he is beating his teammates to a pulp in practice. But his fans loved him and football needed him. And Lawrence Taylor had more issues than my current five-year subscription to Maxim has. Then there is John Lynch, well he doesn’t have many issues, but anyone who rams their own body into another’s as hard as him must have some kind of problem. The point is that we as football fans love these guys.

So why is the Redskins safety getting tabbed with a bad reputation? Big deal, he got into trouble for drinking and driving and had a brush with death from some jealous thug. So what he wouldn’t return phone calls from his coaches in the off-season and skipped off-season workouts. That’s why they call it the off-season. Since when did everyone begin to care about what players do on there own time? Does Dexter Manley ring a bell to anyone? Redskin’s fans loved watching him terrorize quarterbacks such as Danny White and Ron Jaworski. He was loved for what he did on the football field, but did his coaches or the NFL offer him any help on learning how to read or write? No way. Taylor is not the problem and neither are his friends in Miami. The problem is deeper then that. If you ask me, Taylor has the making to be the very best at his position. So does Taylor have a lot to prove this season? He sure does and that is, that he is crazy.
