"Priest Holmes with a 15 yard gain, that's good enough for a Kansas City Chiefs...FIRST DOWN!" Anyone that has ever visited Arrowhead has heard this before and to tell you the truth, there is nothing better in the world then hearing 80,000 screaming fans yell that on a Sunday afternoon in the fall.
Chiefs football has been something that Kansas City has thrived on every fall for many, many years, and every year the expectations are greater then the last. The question still remains...can the Chiefs finally pull it off this year and head to Detroit, Michigan for what is known as the greatest event in all of sports, the Superbowl.
The Chiefs have every power available to them that a Championship team needs. For example: Priest Holmes alone is enough to carry this offense, with his explosive talent at runningback, not to mention the fact that Kansas City has the up and comer Larry Johnson, who last year led the Chiefs to a few major victories while Priest Holmes was injured. They also have Trent Green who is now in his 13th year and while some people call that old, I call it experienced. This guy knows the game of football and if he stays healthy he will be almost impossible to stop.
Now I could go on and on about the offense but the big story circulating around this team is the defense. As you all know the Kansas City Chiefs haven't had the best luck when it comes to defensive positions in the past few years, and this year they have made many changes in hopes to change that. They now have guys like Patrick Surtain, Kendrell Bell, and rookie Derrick Johnson that are "expected" to do big things this year.
Now I bet your asking yourself "So why is this year going to be any different than the rest? Last year the Chiefs were picked to win the Superbowl by a lot of people and they ended up going 7-9 and not even making it to the playoffs. Well for all you skeptics out there, you could most definitely be right. They could go on to be terrible and lose every game and never see any light of the playoffs at all, but let me ask you this. What is the fun in thinking that? Negative attitudes aren't going to help this team win games.
Sure, if your a skeptic and you wanted to stretch this issue even farther you could bring up the winless pre season but why? May I remind all of you that it is the "pre season" and with the exception of the Minnesota game, the Chiefs were in the lead every time when our starters left. Yes, I have a good feeling about these guys this time.
Dick Vermeil stated earlier in the year "We have no excuse to not go all the way this year. We have everything we need to win it all." Mr. Vermeil...I agree with you 100 percent, and I'll leave you all with two little words...GO CHIEFS!!
