Redskins Enter Adulthood
Heading into the season, Washington was the only NFC East team rarely mentioned as a playoff contender, as defending champion New York, Dallas and Philadelphia were all predicted to fight for a postseason berth.
2008 Season Preview: Washington Redskins
As much as the Redskins fans want to ignore it, this team was real lucky to be 5-7 before they went on their memorable run behind their backup QB after losing their most talented player.
Redskins Pre-Draft Summit
Who had a breakout season for the Redskins? Who was the biggest disappointment? Where are the biggest needs in the draft?
More Than A Game
Sean Taylor's death is a tragedy and he wasn't the troubled person some people have painted him as. His offenses, alleged and real, consisted of skipping a rookie symposium, a few late hits, a drunk driving arrest and brandishing a gun.
2007 Season Preview: Washington Redskins
The starters have enough talent to make a quick turnaround. Last year the Skins set an NFL record for their inability to force turnovers, and the defense was 30th in QB pressures. The two quickest ways to turn losses into wins are to improve those two areas, and Washington has enough ability to dramatically improve in both areas.
2007 Draft Review: Washington Redskins
Laron Landry is the 2007 Draft version of AJ Hawk, a defensive stalwart that you won’t find one critic who doesn’t believe he won’t be a very good player right away. His drafting allows Sean Taylor to play more in the box and bolster the run defense, which suits his skill set much better.
Recipe For Disaster: We Hope Not
After last week’s depressing loss at home to the Tennessee Titans, it has even caused “The Fun Bunch,” to turn well, not so fun! But I ask you all one question. Why are we really upset? Losing at home to a 0-5 team with a rookie quarterback and giving up a career high in rushing to a mediocre running back is exactly Washington’s specialty. Believe it or not though, this season is not quite over, but I can give you the exact recipe that has gotten us to this point.
Washington Finally Comes To Play
Washington came into Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans with much to prove. The state of Texas couldn’t really sweep us in just two weeks, could they? Thanks to a timely Mark Brunell and a great game on the ground, Washington comes home winners after a 31-15 win at Reliant Stadium.
The Way The Season Will Unfold
With many key moves in signing quality free-agents, letting go of maybe one of the best head-aches to play Linebacker, and the signing of another experienced Coordinator, Joe Gibbs has surrounded his self with every weapon he needs to win the battle of the NFC East.
2006 NFL Team Preview: Washington Redskins
The injuries to Clinton Portis and Shawn Springs are a real red flag, and the odds of Mark Brunell having another strong season are long. I see them leveling off at 8-8, but if Springs or Brunell miss significant time they’ll not win more than 6 games.
In Gibbs We Trust: Preseason Still Remains Preseason In Washington
With T.J. Duckett on board, the possibilities that exist gives a little hope that “Smash-Mouth” football is returning to Washington. Atlanta’s three-headed monster of Vick, Dunn and Duckett, has now turned into Washington’s power-and-punch with Duckett and Portis.
Not So Perfect Start To An Un-perfect Preseason
When asked how he felt, Clinton Portis simply said, “Like a football player that had no business playing in a football game.” It’s true. Why do NFL coaches insist on playing star players in the preseason. The preseason is not for these guys, it’s for the rookies and the young second stringers. Didn’t the Skins learn anything from last year’s preseason when they lost their pro bowl tackle Jon Jansen?
Always Improving Defense Gets Better
Gregg Williams will be entering his third season in Washington with the hopes of repeating the same success as last year. The various schemes and blitzes that terrorizes opposing offenses accounted for 31 sacks, 11 interceptions and recovered 16 fumbles. The bad thing for the rest of the league is that on paper, they only appear to be stronger.
More Than Meets The Eye
Well, it’s time to give all my faithful fans everything that I have held them in suspense for. It’s my Washington Redskins 2005-2006 year in review article. I know many of you may have thought that I was done. I wasn’t done. It was all about making you wait for the same exact thing I was waiting for. Waiting and wanting brings great joy to us fans, and we waited and wanted, and got what we needed. Here is just a little something extra that we will need to get us through until next year.
Super Sunday Becomes Super Saturday In Tampa
Every week now since August 28th I have faithfully been saying, “This is the year! I just know it!” Meaning that this was the year that our 80 regular season games without a post-season appearance was going to change. Well, 16 games later and we are sitting in front of the same computer at 10-6 and not yet quite ready to write the year in review article.
Santa Moss Has Come To Town
The year was 1983 and the month was December. I was just a little snotty-nose kid at a tender age of 6. Back then I loved the Skins as I do now, and the holidays were just around the corner. A television commercial had came on during a break of my favorite TV show, “The Redskins Report with George Michaels,” that had old number 65 playing old Saint Nick. For years I had believed that Dave Butz was Santa Clause and when I found out that he really wasn’t I was so upset. I mean sooooooo upset. I thought it would just be fitting that a Washington Redskins player could really be Santa.
Hail To The Redskins
It has been a long time since I have written you a Christmas wish list, Mom, but please make sure this makes it to old Saint Nick. In all the years that I have written a wish list to you I remember asking for a Joe Theismann jersey, a Darrell Green bobble head, and many other Redskins memorabilia, but I don’t believe I have ever asked you for what I am about to ask for. It’s Christmas and you have always made this time of year a great time to remember and this one I want to be remembered as the best.
Great Show On The Turf
Wasn’t everything just clicking so well last week in St. Louis? The offense was led by the one-two punch of Clinton (You got my vote for presidency) Portis and the slashing running of unsung-hero Rock Cartwright. Both backs tallied over 100 yards each that helped the Skins to a 24-9 victory. The thing that really has me smiling is that not only did the Redskins keep a 4th quarter lead, but on Portis’ second of two touchdowns, it marked the first Washington touchdown in the fourth quarter in 12 quarters.
The Most Discouraging Thing for Opponents: The Music Stops Here
Right now the unlucky number stands at 3. Three filthy-flarn losses, that could have the Skins hearing holy music.
Hey Ref, Turn The Music Down a Little
It’s official, the officials are currently heading the league that really stands for Not For Long when you make calls like that. Not once, not twice and not only three times, but four foul-mouth calls have sent me into the bathroom praying to the porcelain gods. Seriously, I am so sick of watching the referees take games from the Washington Redskins.
The Name of The Game is For The Love
Even though I may be subjected to have to hear about, the Philadelphia Eagles were without Terrell Owens, I still must remind those that Washington is among the top. The top of the cream of the crop, and guess what Philly? Without T.O. you meet my expectation of utter stupidity.
Filth, Flarn, Flarn, Filth And Next Up, The Filthy Fleagles
After Sunday’s shellacking by the New York Giants, there is really nothing that I can get out of my mouth except, “Filth, Flarn, Flarn, and Filth.” It’s incredible that a week after blowing the 49ers to smithereens, we go to New York and can’t score one f*&%$@* Point.
Humiliating An Opposing Team Leaves The Best Taste In My Mouth
In all of my 23 years that I have been watching the Washington Redskins, I believe I have never seen 52 points on our scoreboard in our favor. LaVar Arrington was playing and the defense was hungry, all the while the offense was firing on all cylinders.
Is LaVar The Answer To The Skins Two Game Slide?
Two straight weeks now Washington has played with the fire to win and it’s the defense that still seems to be lacking. You could just tell that Kansas City was not going to play a game without a big play from running back Priest Holmes who provided the knockout punch on his game winning 60-yard reception.
Hey Referee: Tuck This
It wasn’t just the cold, rainy weather that Washington was up against, but a questionable tuck-rule call, and a 52-yard field goal reversed because of a false start on the snapper, were just what the Champ-less Broncos needed to squeak out the 21-19 win.
Gibbs Has Redskins Fans Everywhere Tooting Their Own Horn
After yet another thrilling victory the Washington Redskins are beginning to reach that upper echelon that years ago looked out of reach. After the disposing of the Seattle Seahawks at home on Sunday, Washington is 3-0 for the first time since 1991, when they beat the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl.
Bye Week Means One Stride Towards Perfection
Following the Redskins 2-0 start, this is the first time in five years that my sign that states “Home of a Redskins fan,” has not been terrorized by the neighborhood kids. For once I won’t be spending countless hours trying to scrub the words “You Suck” off of it.
Mother Nature Couldn’t Stop Us Now
The Dallas Cowboys night of heroics was cut short when the Redskins offensive implosion for just a little under eight quarters suddenly turned to an explosion in a barn burner 14-13 win.
Capitol Punishment: Washington Redskins Defense
The Redskins-Cowboys rivalry has been said that the fire has been somewhat dissolved. Well, if you talk to any Redskins fan I am sure that they will tell you that the most hated team in the NFL is still in fact Dallas. To say that this rivalry is not the same must mean that you have forgotten that Dallas has won 14-of-15 games in recent history.
Ramsey Has The Fire But Gibbs Holds The Extinguisher
Brunell may have been the quarterback in the end but I assure you that John Hall, Clinton Portis and the ferocious defense is what really won the game for Washington in the 9-7 beat em’ up battle with the Bears.
Not Only Does The Clock Tick-It Tocks: Why????
With the season right around the corner it will be round two for Coach Joe Gibbs and Defensive head man Gregg Williams, in this Rocky Balboa underdog saga.
One Disaster Doesn’t Deserve Another
No matter what city you live in or what city your favorite ball club plays in, Katrina takes a toll on everyone. For our beloved Redskins many players have hailed from these areas. Some have family still there and some even played their college ball right in the Superdome.
Just Your Ordinary Defender: Sean Taylor
Second year safety Sean Taylor may feel that he has a lot to prove this year after a series of off-season problems. But were they really problems, or has the entire NFL changed?
Unlucky Number 80
Unlucky number 80, that’s how many regular season games the Washington Redskins have played without a postseason appearance.
For Gibbs’ Skins, It’s Do or Die in 2005
About this time last summer, the air in and around the nation’s capital was abuzz in anticipation. After ten seasons with fourteen different starting quarterbacks, five different head coaches, and only one postseason appearance, the return of legendary coach, Joe Gibbs, and the acquisition of star running back, Clinton Portis, gave the D.C. faithful all the reason they needed to rev up the engine on the old Skins bandwagon.
