Keyboard Quarterback: Nine Is Fine
Authored by Andrew Perna - 6th November, 2007 - 4:49 pm
While there isn't a real marquee matchup, Ravens vs. Colts, Panthers vs. Bucs, Bears vs. Falcons, and Chargers vs. Patriots are all pivotal games in the standings.
With John Herrera standing to his right dressed in black and appearing not unlike an undertaker, Lane Kiffin sat down at the podium for Sunday's postgame news conference.
Baltimore wants Flacco to be their QB of the future. But the Ravens feel they have no choice but to start him now because Boller and Smith are unavailable. Wrong!

The Eagles are on the brink of falling out of contention in the NFC East, with eight games left on the schedule for the 2007 season. As good as they looked in Week Eight against the Minnesota Vikings, they looked even worse in their Sunday night loss to the division-leading Dallas Cowboys.
At 3-5 they stand four games behind the Cowboys and several games away from a wild card spot with the Giants and Lions (both 6-2) second in their respective divisions. They’ll need to roll over the Redskins and Dolphins in the next two weeks to get themselves back to .500, before they face the dreaded Patriots in Week Twelve.
I’ll be at Gillette Stadium for the Nov. 25 matchup between my Eagles and Ms. KQ’s Patriots. At this point I’m just hoping I’ll get to see Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook play in Foxboro; otherwise, I wasted some hard-earned cash just to watch New England beat up on Philadelphia.
The Downs The First Down…Peterson Runs Wild LaDainian who? Adrian Peterson showed up the 2007 MVP on Sunday, showcasing himself as the next dominant NFL running back. Peterson rushed 30 times for 296 yards and three touchdowns against the San Diego defense, leading the Vikings to an upset win over the favored Chargers. He is truly unbelievable. Even his fourth-quarter fumble came as a result of his never-say-die attitude. I’m just glad that CBS showed the game in my area; it’s one of those performances that you’ll never forget. Oh yeah, he broke the single-game rushing record (Jamal Lewis, 295), as well.
The Second Down…Remember The Titans All the Tennessee Titans need Vince Young to do on offensive is throw for a hundred or so yards and run in a score here and there. The defensive will do the rest of the work. Tennessee won their third-straight game on Sunday, downing Carolina 20-7. Albert Haynesworth recorded three of the team’s seven sacks against the Panthers; the Titans also picked off two Carolina passes. Even with Pacman Jones in the wrestling ring, they have excelled on defense. Tennessee has held six of their eight opponents under 14 points this season and have Jacksonville, Denver and Cincinnati on the horizon.
The Third Down…Pats Triumph Midway through the fourth quarter it looked as though the Indianapolis Colts were going to stand tall as the NFL’s last remaining unbeaten team, but two strong drives led by New England’s Tom Brady gave the Patriots a 24-20 victory, and a 9-0 record. Brady hooked up with Wes Welker and Kevin Faulk on consecutive drives to help the Pats overcome a ten-point fourth-quarter deficit. Joseph Addai, who has officially become my favorite NFL running back not named Brian Westbrook, gained 226 totals yards and reached the end zone, but the Colts’ offense stalled on several occasions when given the opportunity to break New England’s back. Could the Pats go 16–0? It’s certainly still a possibility.
The Fourth Down…Big Ben Breaks Out Big Ben chimed rather loudly at Heinz Field on Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens. Roethlisberger connected on five first-half touchdowns on MNF before suffering an injury, only to return later in the game. The Steelers were victorious, 38-7, preserving their one-game lead over the Browns in the AFC North. The lead in the division will be on the line this weekend when Pittsburgh takes on Cleveland. Who expected the Browns to be in the picture with teams like Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Baltimore in their division?
The ‘Remember Him?’ Statline of the Week… Warrick Dunn, Falcons RB: 27 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown.
My Keyboard Prediction for Week Ten The swarming Tennessee Titans’ defense will have another field day with Quinn Gray of the Jaguars. Gray enjoyed a respective performance against the porous Saints’ defense in Week Nine, relying on lengthy bombs to put Jacksonville in scoring position. Tennessee sacked Carolina’s David Carr seven times last weekend, and their red-hot defensive line will be hungry for more of the same at home against their divisional rival.
My Fantasy Diary… The Drew Crew is back in business. After suffering a terrible defeat at the hands of DRoxx and Tom Brady in Week Seven, I’ve won two straight games in convincing fashion.
Thanks to Joseph Addai, who has been responsible for all seven of my victories, and my bye-week replacement Jon Kitna, I had things wrapped up well before halftime of the Pats-Colts showdown.
In fact, three players (of the eight I started) were all I needed to defeat the K-Team and his injury-riddled roster. Addai, Kitna and the Tennessee Titans combined for 83 points in Week Nine, 20 more than K-Team’s entire roster accumulated this weekend.
It’s a good thing those three excelled for the Crew, though, because Anquan Boldin, Dwayne Bowe, Benjamin Watson and Jason Elam tallied a measly six points. Six points. Are you kidding me? As the owner and general manager of The Drew Crew I find their Week Nine performances to be completely unacceptable. Write that down, print it and marvel at it. Anquan, Dwayne, Benjamin and Jason: You’re all on a short leash heading into this weekend!
Things will not be easy for The Crew this weekend, as I face My Little Ponies. The Ponies (8-1) are the only team in the ECP League that has a better record than The Crew (7-2).
Next week’s KQ could be full of obscenities as I’ll be going against the likes of Tony Romo, LaDainian Tomlinson, Jamal Lewis, Chad Johnson (if he plays) and Kellen Winslow.
Nonetheless, The Drew Crew is 7-2 and rolling towards the postseason!
My Fantasy Football Record for the 2007 Season: Week Nine: 5-7
Week Eight: 6-6
Week Seven: 6-6
Week Six: 10-2
Week Five: 5-7
Week Four: 9-3
Week Three: 7-5
Week Two: 6–6
Week One: 8–4
Overall: 62 wins and 46 losses
