Team Rankings For College Football After Week 2
In our first NCAA football rankings of 2008, we introduce a new statistic called the 'Criticals Counter.'

Football Meteorology For Week 1
The crispness is back in the air, and that can only mean one thing: It’s football season! Risdon offers his picks for Week 1 and which teams will make the playoffs.

Go Slow With Flacco
Baltimore wants Flacco to be their QB of the future. But the Ravens feel they have no choice but to start him now because Boller and Smith are unavailable. Wrong!

Breakout Players Of 2008
Among Marshawn Lynch, Calvin Johnson, LaRon Landry and Thomas Howard, there are no shortage of young players that are poised to explode this season.

We began RealGM’s first-ever ‘Be An NFL GM Contest’ with thirty-two talented players, and now we are down to just eight possible franchise cornerstones. Much like in the first round, quarterbacks dominated the second round and represent four, or half, of the remaining gridiron stars.

The voting was much closer last round than it was in the first, and I’d imagine with the high-profile match-ups we’ll be showcasing in the third round that every vote will count! We’ve reached the 8,000-vote mark through the first two rounds and I’m hoping we will be able to hit the 15,000-mark by the time our 2006 RealGM Ultimate NFL Franchise Player is crowned.

If you followed the first two rounds closely welcome back for another round of voting, and if you’re new to the contest - Don’t worry! If you want your inner-NFL GM voice heard, and you want a chance to win an NFL Retro Jersey courtesy of DistantReplays.com (a $300 value) all you have to do is make sure you check out RealGMFootball.com daily for each quarterfinal match-up!

Each day, you will have the chance to e-mail me with your prediction regarding that day’s match-up. For example, one of the quarterfinal match-ups will pit New England’s Tom Brady against Cincinnati’s Carson Palmer. In order to enter yourself in the running for the NFL Retro Jersey, all you have to do is e-mail me at Andrew.Perna@RealGM.com with your daily prediction! The only rule we have is that you only enter yourself in the contest once per day.

So who’s left in the running to become the 2006 RealGM Ultimate NFL Franchise Player? In addition to Brady and Palmer, fellow quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning also advanced past the second round. You’ll also see NFL icons such as LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Urlacher featured in the quarterfinal round.

However, don’t look for stars such as Ben Roethlisberger, Vince Young, and Larry Johnson. All were eliminated in the second round and will have to wait until next summer to see if they can become our ultimate franchise player.

Schedule for Third Round
Aug. 21: Tom Brady, NE vs. Carson Palmer, CIN
Aug. 23: Peyton Manning, IND vs. LaDainian Tomlinson, SD
Aug. 25: Eli Manning, NYG vs. Brian Urlacher, CHI
Aug. 28: Reggie Bush, NO vs. Shaun Alexander, SEA

I want to thank you all for making the second round a huge success, and here’s to hoping the quarterfinal round is even better!
