Brian Urlacher enters the quarterfinal round as the last defensive player standing, while Eli remains as one of the several quarterbacks still in the running for the crown. If Eli can get past Urlacher he’ll be one step closer to a possible Manning vs. Manning match-up in the finals. Which of these two will make the Final Four?

The Case For Eli

Eli showed a tremendous amount of progress last season, improving his quarterback rating by twenty points in 2005, while leading the Giants to a 11-5 record and a NFC East title. If he turns out to be a fraction of the player his brother has been, then he’s a good pick to start an NFL team. Being a quarterback bodes well for him in this contest.

The Case Against Eli

He may forever be compared to his older brother, a comparison that isn’t fair to the younger Manning. Peyton is the most talented quarterback of his generation, and Eli may end up caving to the pressure that the media and fans have placed on him. If he continues to excel that won’t be a problem, but if he fails to improve this season, New Yorkers will be calling for his head.

The Case For Urlacher

The old cliche reads: ‘defense wins championships.’ So if you want to select a player to begin a franchise with Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher might be your man. A six-year veteran, he has a great deal of experience and still a handful of good years left in his 260-pound frame. A first round pick by Chicago in 2000, Brian has accumulated impressive numbers with over seven hundred tackles, and has forced over a dozen turnovers in his career.

The Case Against Urlacher

One might argue that at 27 years of age, Urlacher’s best years are behind him. On the contrary, he exploded for one hundred and twenty-two tackles and six sacks last season. While, a linebacker is an important part of any successful NFL team, other positions such as offensive players like quarterback, running back, and wide receiver might hold even greater importance.
