In the first of two final four match-ups New England’s Tom Brady will take on Indianapolis’s Peyton Manning for the chance to represent the AFC in the finals of our ‘Be an NFL GM’ contest. Brady has three Super Bowl rings, while Peyton is arguably the most talented quarterback of his era. You might want to keep in mind that if Peyton wins, and his brother Eli outlasts Reggie Bush, the our RealGM Franchise Player of the Year would be decided in a Manning vs. Manning Super Bowl later next week!

The Case for Brady

If you want a quarterback to build a franchise on, Brady has to be at the top of your list. Unlike a lot of his NFL counterparts, he always plays within himself and makes excellent decisions when they are needed most. In addition to his three Super Bowl rings, Brady is only getting better as a quarterback. He had his best statistical season in 2005, throwing for 4,110 yards and twenty-six touchdowns.

The Case against Brady

Many people in the sporting world feel that Brady is the best quarterback in the entire league. While it may be true, Brady’s far from the most talented field general in the game of football. He doesn’t have the smarts of Peyton Manning, the legs of Michael Vick, or the arm strength of John Elway. It hasn’t caught up with him yet, but as he gets older, it might become a problem for him, as it did for Joe Montana when he was forced out of San Francisco by the emerging Steve Young.

The Case for Peyton

If you’re looking for a quarterback whose head is 110% into the game of football, Manning is your man. Peyton is the best pure quarterback in all of football, and he’s still only a season removed from breaking Dan Marino’s single-season touchdown record. He’s the smartest quarterback on the field, and you can never doubt that he’s giving his all to will his team to victory. He also makes some pretty funny commercials.

The Case against Peyton

The only real case you can make against Peyton is that he has difficulty winning in the ‘big game.’ As great as he has been in his nine-year career he’s yet to make a trip to the Super Bowl and he’s not getting any younger, which is something an opponent like Brady has over him. Manning can also tend to over think things on the football field, particularly when he’s blitzed. He reads a defense like no other before the snap, but sometimes he thinks too much and doesn’t feel the game.
