The Baltimore Sun - 05/14 - 10:15 AM EST Terrell Suggs and the Ravens have reached a compromise regarding the placing of the franchise tag on the defender by creating a "new" position, according to The Baltimore Sun.
The two sides agreed upon a one-year deal worth close to $8.5 million, paying him as a hybrid defense end-linebacker.
The NFL and the players association are believed to be finalizing the details to sign off on the deal.
"His job is to rush the quarterback as a defensive end, and I thought it was unfair that he had to live under the linebacker franchise tag," said Gary Wichard, Suggs' agent. "So, Ozzie [Newsome, Ravens general manager] and I said, 'Let us resolve this as opposed to the attorneys.' I tip my hat off to Ozzie for creating a new franchise tag."
When the Ravens placed the franchise tag on him in February, they intended to pay him as a linebacker, but Suggs argued that he should be considered a defense end, a position that averages a higher salary. [READ] | |
