Cable Declares War Against Kiffin

San Francisco Chronicle - Tom Cable was outraged that his assistant offensive line coach, James Cregg, quit after Sunday's 49-26 loss to the Patriots with two games to play.

Cregg was hired by fired Raiders coach Lane Kiffin, who is at the University of Tennessee. Kiffin's in-season move has Cable ready to denounce his former boss.

"I'm pissed," Cable said Monday. "That's the best way to put it. Quite frankly, that's the only way to put it."

Cable's first response was to fire two Kiffin confidants still on staff, football administrator Mark Jackson, who helped with contract work, and office assistant Stephen Reaves, Kiffin's brother-in-law.

Cable met with the coaching staff to see if anyone else was headed to Knoxville before the Raiders' season ends.

"I've got a lot of respect for (Kiffin) - had a lot of respect for him - and then to do this is ridiculous," Cable said. "It's wrong, wrong in the business of coaching." [READ]
