| 1st January, 2007 - 7:17 pm |  The Crimson White - With the NFL regular season over, Alabama football's romance of Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban has finally come to a now-or-never point, according to several media reports Monday.
The Palm Beach Post reported late Sunday night that the Crimson Tide stood to offer a 10-year, $40 million contract to Saban, a national championship winner at LSU in 2003. The deal, if accepted, would make him the highest-paid coach in college football, passing Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, who makes $3.4 million each year.
The Birmingham News reported on its Web site Monday that athletics director Mal Moore flew to Miami early in the afternoon. Citing unnamed sources, the report said Moore would not make the offer in person if he did not believe Saban would accept, and that representatives for Saban and the Tide had hashed out the basics of a deal late Sunday night.
