| 25th October, 2007 - 8:43 am |  ESPN - Denver Broncos' wide receiver Rod Smith, the franchise leader in every major receiving category, returned to practice on Wednesday for the first time since undergoing extensive hip surgery eight months ago.
"It's great to have him back," coach Mike Shanahan said. "Hopefully, there are no setbacks, and we will get a chance to see what he can do."
The 13-year veteran began the season on the physically unable to perform list, and at times during his rehabilitation, Smith publicly expressed some doubts about when, or even if, he would be able to come back and play in 2007.
By league rule, the Broncos now have a three-week window in which to evaluate Smith's progress and conditioning. By the end of the three weeks, the team must either move him to the active, 53-player roster or keep him on the PUP list for the rest of the season. [READ] |
