Netflix To Air NFL Games On Christmas Day In 2024, 2025, 2026

May 15, 2024 11:24 AM

Netflix has agreed to broadcast NFL games on Christmas Day in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Christmas is on a Wednesday this year and a Friday in 2026, which are days when the NFL typically doesn't schedule games. Christmas Day falls on a Thursday in 2025.

The NFL had strong ratings for their Christmas Day games in 2023.

The NBA has historically made Christmas Day one of their signature days of the season.

Netflix To Broadcast NFL's Christmas Day Doubleheader

May 10, 2024 11:12 AM

The NFL is expected to sell its Christmas doubleheader to Netflix. This will be the first time NFL games are broadcast on the streaming service.

The move doesn't necessarily mean Netflix could become a long-term partner with a consistent schedule of games. Netflix often likes to have one-off events such as last weekend's roast of Tom Brady.

Christmas Day falls on a Wednesday this year and the NFL's original intention was to not play on the day.

Chiefs' Rashee Rice Suspect In Alleged Assault

May 8, 2024 8:37 AM

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is a suspect in an alleged assault that injured a man at a Dallas nightclub earlier this week, police have confirmed.

The Dallas Morning News reported that officers were dispatched early Monday morning to the nightclub after reports of an assault. A man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including swelling on one side of his face.

Rice, 24, was arrested in Dallas in March for his involvement in a seven-car crash that left at least seven people with injuries. He is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury, according to police.

Rice was driving 119 mph before the crash on a Dallas freeway, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Morning News.

May 3, 2024 9:15 AM

Dallas police will not pursue sexual assault charges against Dak Prescott, with a police spokesperson saying that detectives determined there was insufficient evidence an offense was committed.

The case stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred in 2017 in which a woman said Prescott assaulted her in the back of an SUV in a strip club parking lot.

Illinois Gov.: Bears' Stadium Plan A 'Nonstarter'

May 2, 2024 9:10 AM

The Chicago Bears' proposal to fund a new lakefront stadium remains a "nonstarter," Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker's office said after top aides met with team officials.

The Bears unveiled a $5 billion plan calling for public funding last week for an enclosed facility to be built next to their longtime home at Soldier Field.

"As the Governor has said, the current proposal is a non-starter for the state," press secretary Alex Gough said in a statement.

"In order to subsidize a brand new stadium for a privately owned sports team, the Governor would need to see a demonstrable and tangible benefit to the taxpayers of Illinois. The Governor's office remains open to conversations with the Bears, lawmakers, and other stakeholders with the understanding that responsible fiscal stewardship of tax-payer dollars remains the foremost priority."

The Bears' plan calls for $3.2 billion for the new stadium plus an additional $1.5 billion in infrastructure. The proposal calls for $2.025 billion from the Bears, $300 million from an NFL loan and $900 million in bonds from the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority.

NFL Could Move To 18-Game Season, Super Bowl President's Day Weekend

Apr 26, 2024 2:41 PM

The NFL is considering an 18-game regular season and a Super Bowl on President's Day weekend.

Goodell said he would embrace a schedule featuring 18 regular-season games and two preseason contests, a significant shift from the current 17 regular-season and three preseason contests that was implemented in 2021.

"I think we're good at 17 now," Goodell said. "But, listen, we're looking at how we continue. I'm not a fan of the preseason." Then, gesturing toward a group of fans assembled nearby, Goodell said, "And I don't think these guys like it either." He continued: "The reality is, I'd rather replace a preseason game with a regular-season game any day. That's just picking quality. If we get to 18 and 2, that's not an unreasonable thing."

The NFL could add a second bye under an 18-game regular season that could push back the Super Bowl to President's Day weekend.

"And then you have Monday off," Goodell said.

The length of the season would have to be collectively bargained with the NFLPA.

Chiefs Superfan Ordered To Pay $10.8M To Former Bank Teller

Apr 9, 2024 8:24 AM

A judge has ordered the Kansas City Chiefs superfan who committed a series of bank robberies to pay $10.8 million to a Bixby, Oklahoma, teller he threatened with a gun in December 2022.

Tulsa County District Judge Tracy L. Priddy ordered Xaviar Babudar, widely known as Chiefsaholic, to pay Payton Garcia, the former teller, $3.6 million for inflicting physical harm and emotional distress and $7.2 million in punitive damages.

Babudar, 29, built a large social media following, cultivating the image of an ambitious, generous young man who enjoyed gambling, Kansas State sports and, most of all, the Chiefs. However, an ESPN investigation revealed that much of what he portrayed about himself online was not true.

Babudar was first arrested Dec. 16, 2022, in Bixby, after fleeing the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union, where he pointed at black CO2 pistol at Garcia and demanded she give him "the 100s" or he'd put a bullet in her head, according to Bixby police.

Draft Prospect T'Vondre Sweat Arrested For DWI

Apr 8, 2024 8:40 AM

One of the top defensive prospects in this month's NFL Draft, Texas product T'Vondre Sweat, has been arrested.

Sweat, 22, was detained in Austin, Texas, early Sunday after police arrested the defensive lineman on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.

Texas law mandates that a Class B misdemeanor, which is what he faces, is punishable by up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.

The expectation was that Sweat would be either a first- or second-round pick.
